Sun Microsystems buying MySQL
January 16, 2008
Just a few months ago I told a co-worker that I was waiting for MySQL to go public. Now I will have to buy Sun Microsystems Stock (again) if I want to own a piece of MySQL. Here’s the story… Sun got a GREAT deal. I think MySQL would have been worth more than $1 billion dollars as a public company.
I am VERY surprised that Oracle did not attempt to make this purchase. Maybe $1 billion dollars was just too small a tab. Oracle was busy today announcing their $8.5 billion purchase of Bea Systems.
Until today, I had no idea Sun had changed their stock symbol from SUNW to JAVA. That puts their stock symobol right up there with Saleforce.com’s CRM and Investools SWIM.
