LSU Tigers! National Champions Again!
January 8, 2008
Congratulations to LSU and the state of Louisiana!
And they only had to play 8 ranked teams to get here.
I was extremely nervous about our chances after LSU gave up a 65 yard run to Ohio State on the 3rd play of the game. And especially after LSU had a bad snap and Flynn had to fall on the ball on 3rd down. Things started to look up once they were able to stop Ohio State from getting a touchdown on their second drive. Ten to zero was an ugly way to start. We wondered if Les Miles was going to fire Bo Pelini during the 2nd quarter as he had joked during one of his press conferences.
Before the game I watched the ESPN pre-game show and three of the four commentators picked Ohio State to win. Only one person picked LSU to win and that was because he felt guilty or something. After the game it was a different story. They questioned why Ohio State was EVEN in the game to begin with. Four hours ago they picked Ohio State to win and now they wondered why USC was even there playing LSU. For the record, USC was ranked #3 in the final polls, BEHIND Georgia. USC received only 1 first place vote in the AP Poll. Still many sportswriters keep trying to pin an asterisk to LSU’s National Championship. But they have two loses. But other teams are “playing as well as anybody” or “hot”. But they didn’t play Georgia. But they had home field advantage and don’t even know what snow is. But we need a playoff system. But, But, But.
I actually agree we need a playoff system. BUT the BCS is better than what they had before. The BCS is great at highlighting which teams have cream puff schedules. You can be (12 and 0) and not belong in a BCS Bowl Game (see Georgia vs Hawaii).
I was so proud of the way LSU played last night. They kept their composure during the first quarter when things went terribly wrong. They didn’t commit a penalty until the 3rd quarter, which is HIGHLY uncharacteristic of any LSU team throughout history. Each player at EACH position played their heart out.
I can’t wait to visit Baton Rouge this weekend and buy some National Championship gear. If this is anything like 2003, it will look like Mardi Gras exploded inside of the Mall.
Congratulations again LSU. You deserve to be NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!
